Jul 9, 2004. #1. I was reading through the Mercruiser service manual for a 3.0L 181 cid inline-4 motor (in a boat) and it says to use Quicksilver Perfect Seal on the cylinder head bolt threads. My questions are: I know Mercury marine doesn't produce their own sealant (nor oil), so what is quicksilver perfect seal and who most likely produces it?

I have a 2.5L Optimax and the only place my manual calls for Perfect Seal on the water pump is inside the insert area of the pump cover, before installing the insert. This only applies if you are re-using the old cover and installing a new insert.
