I just pulled 20 various Rainbird heads/nozzles from my lawn and replaced them all with PRS40 pressure-regulating heads and MP1000 Rotator 90-210' nozzles. I can't remember the exact reason why I went with MP over RVANs, but here I am. Anyway, I'll start with my annoyances:

While the standard MP rotator is approximately 0.4 inches/hour, the Hunter MP800 rotator reaches 0.8 inches/hour. These data assume a steady pressure at 40 psi—the optimal operating pressure. Rainbird rotary nozzles have an average precipitation rate of 0.60 inches/hour as long as they operate within the recommended pressure range.

I'm all rain bird bodies so I converted a zone from van sprays to rvan rotators. No personal experience with mps but couldn't be happier 

Again. MP is lower flow, longer run times, more flexibility for conversions from sprays/rotors, wind affects steam easier. Rvan is less range, higher flow, less flexible, shorter run times, cuts wind a little better. Yes, the pros and cons are mixed together, as I will sometimes mix the two heads on a zone if it contains shade (mp) and full Sun

Rain Bird's equivalent to the MP Rotator. But I do agree with you. The standard VAN spray nozzle is the most worthless POS that anybody has ever made.
