The function key and F keys located at the top of the keyboard perform various shortcut functions. Fn key helps act effectively. Alongside the other keys, it performs multiple functions. The function keys include f1, f2, and so forth until f12. Over the years, the usage of Fn keys has grown, more so with the advent of laptops.

The Fn key is used to activate special Function Keys which are marked by special icons in the same color. For example, key F1 on my laptop's keyboard has a small icon of Touchpad Off in a color

Modern laptop and desktop keyboards have a multi-purpose set of keys in the “function” row. These keys can perform special actions related to the audio volume, playback, and hardware features. They can also function as the classic F1-F12 keys — but not at the same time.

The function keys are keys F1 to F12 (or on some keyboards, F19) located at the top of your keyboard. Function keys can function alone and perform certain single key actions, e.g. F5 to refresh a page.

Here are some combinations that you can use to try and unlock your function key: Ctrl + Shift + Num. Fn + Num. Fn + F11. Num + F11. Fn + left Shift. Fn + Esc. If any of these combinations work on your laptop to unlock the function key, then you should be able to use them again to lock it.

For example, press Alt, and then press one of the old menu keys, for example, E (Edit), V (View), I (Insert), and so on. A notification pops up saying you're using an access key from an earlier version of Microsoft Office. If you know the entire key sequence, go ahead, and use it. If you don't know the sequence, press Esc and use Key Tips instead.

It can get annoying if you have to constantly and consistently press the FN key to use the F1-F12 keys on your keyboard.

On a Windows PC, the special functions of F1-F12 are accessed by holding down the Fn key and then pressing one of the function keys. That can include muting sound or adjusting screen brightness. So, to use the Fn key on : Hold down the Fn key. Simultaneously, press whichever function key you need to use.

Press and hold the Fn key on your keyboard. Hold this key down while you move to the next step. 3 Press the Fn Lock key. When you release your fingers, the Fn key will no longer
